Today we gonna learn Numbers in Japanese.. I suppose to share with you earlier, but somehow only now i remembered.. Hehehe..
Never mind, lets continue our lesson..
Ok, actually in Japanese there are two numerical system:
1. Chinese Origin Numbers
2. Native Japanese Numbers (limited to 1 through 10)
Chinese Origin Numbers
0 - Zero / Rei
1 - Ichi
2 - Ni
3 - San
4 - Shi / Yon
5 - Go
6 - Roku
7 - Shichi / Nana
8 - Hachi
9 - Kyuu / Ku
10 - Juu
To form numbers from 11-19, it is a combination of ten (juu) + one (ichi) to get 11, ten (juu) + two (ni) to get 12, ten (juu) + three (san) to get 13 and so on..
11 - Juu-ichi
12 - Juu-ni
13 - Juu-san
14 - Juu-shi
15 - Juu-go
16 - Juu-roku
17 - Juu-shichi
18 - Juu-hachi
19 - Juu-ku
To form numbers 20 - 29, it is combination of two (ni) + ten (juu) to get 20, two tens (ni-juu) + one (ichi) to get 21, two tens (ni-ju) + two (ni) to get 21, two tens (ni-ju) + three (san) to get 23.. Same goes to form numbers 30 - 99..
20 - Ni-juu
21 - Ni-juu-ichi
22 - Ni-juu-ni
23 - Ni-juu-san
24 - Ni-juu-shi
25 - Ni-juu-go
26 - Ni-juu-roku
27 - Ni-juu-shichi
28 - Ni-juu-hachi
29 - Ni-juu-ku
30 - San-juu
31 - San-juu-ichi
40 - Yon-juu
41 - Yon-juu-ichi
50 - Go-juu
51 - Go-juu-ichi
60 - Roku-juu
61- Roku-juu-ichi
70 - Shichi-juu / Nana-juu
71- Shichi-juu-ichi / Nana-juu-ichi
80 - Hachi-juu
81 - Hachi-juu-ichi
90 - Kyu-juu

Native Japanese Numbers
It is use for things which are not clearly categorized or which are shapeless (stones, boxes, stars, idea, problem etc.)..
1 - Hitotsu
2 - Futatsu
3 - Mittsu
4 - Yottsu
5 - Itsutsu
6 - Muttsu
7 - Nanatsu
8 - Yattsu
9 - Kokonotsu
10 - Too
NOTE
Counting things can be done in two ways:
a) Using the Native Japanese number independently
b) Using Chinese Origin Number combined with a counter
